Leather shoes aren’t just a stylish addition to your wardrobe – with the right care, they can last for years! Cleaning and maintaining them doesn’t have to be complicated. With the right products and a little attention, your leather shoes will look good as new in no time.
Step-by-step: How to clean leather shoes
Step 1 | Remove dirt and dust
Start by getting rid of surface dirt and dust. Use a soft brush or a dry cloth and gently wipe down the leather. This helps prevent build-up and avoids scratching or damaging the material.
Step 2 | Give them a proper clean
For deeper cleaning, we recommend using a special leather cleaner. A leather cleaner removes dirt and stains effectively without harming the leather.
How to use it:
- Apply: Spray the foam onto a sponge and gently rub it over the shoe.
- Wait: Let the product soak in for a few minutes so it can lift the dirt.
- Wipe: Use a clean, slightly damp cloth to remove any residue.
Step 3 | Let them dry
Let your shoes air dry at room temperature. Avoid placing them near direct heat sources like radiators or sunlight, as this can dry out the leather.
Step 4 | Condition your leather shoes
After cleaning, it’s important to condition your leather to keep it soft and shiny. The Carbon Gold Tube is perfect for this. They nourish the leather and prevent it from drying out.
How to use:
- Apply: Apply a layer over the leather.
- Let it soak in: Allow to dry for 20 minutes.
- Polish: Buff your shoes gently with a soft polishing cloth or brush to shine.
- Store or wear: Either pop them on or store them neatly. (Want tips on shoe storage? We’ve got that too!)
- Repeat: Do this regularly for the best protection.
Extra tips for cleaning leather shoes
- Remove the laces: Always take out the laces before cleaning so you can reach every spot. Wash the laces separately by hand in warm, soapy water.
- Use shoe trees: Insert shoe trees while drying (or storing) to keep the shape and prevent creases.
- Make it a habit: Regular maintenance helps your shoes stay looking great for longer.

Bonus tips to make your shoes feel like new again
Replace your footbeds: If the memory foam isn’t feeling quite so cushy anymore, or the insoles just won’t come clean, it might be time for a replacement. A new insole can make your shoes feel brand new. It’s a small upgrade with big comfort benefits. Browse our footbeds here.
- Switch out your laces: If your laces are beyond saving, refresh your look with a new pair! Go classic, or add a pop of colour – your shoes, your style.
- Rotate your shoes: Give your shoes a breather. Wearing the same pair every day can lead to wear and tear – and less-than-fresh smells. Switching pairs helps prolong their life. (Still dealing with smelly shoes? We’ve got tips for that too!)
