1 | Choose the right shoes
If there’s one thing that makes the biggest difference, it’s your footwear. Your shoes can squeeze your forefoot and rub against your bunion. Ouch!
To ease the pain, look for shoes that:
- Have extra room for your bunion
- Are made from soft, flexible materials
- Offer proper support and cushioning
- Don’t pinch around the bunion
A simple rule to check the fit of your shoes: you should have a thumb’s width of space at the front of your shoe. Also, your bunion shouldn’t feel trapped against the side of your shoe.

2 | Avoid high heels (most of the time)
