White shoes: how do you keep them clean?

White shoes are currently indispensable. The chances are you might have also added some white trainers to your shoe collection. When purchased, your brand-new shoes were radiantly beautiful white, but after wearing them they might have turned into a dirty pair of kicks… 

So how do you make sure shoes look like new? Thanks to some maintenance products and interesting home, garden, and kitchen products (for when you don't have real maintenance products at home) you can make your white shoes look whiter than ever! 

1 | Protect Spray

This tip actually applies to all of our shoes; spray the shoes with a protective spray before you start wearing them. Wolky All Protect spray is a good product to use as well as the Carbon Pro Wax from Collonil.

These sprays protect and maintain the material against dirt and moisture. It will only take you a minute and you will certainly benefit from it. If there is a stain on it, you can easily wipe it off.

2 | Carbon Complete

If you've got a stain on your white shoes, Carbon Complete is your best friend. This foam comes with a sponge. Shake the bottle, keep a distance of approximately 1 cm from the sponge and spray some foam on it. Then use the sponge to clean your shoes. You will see an instant result and stain-free shoes in no time. 

3 | Sneaker White

With the Sneaker White bottle from Collonil you can quickly and easily make your shoes perfectly white again. This is also very useful for freshening up white sole edges.

Before we do anything, let's start with a golden rule: Whatever you do, try everything out in a very small invisible spot first to avoid disappointment! There are numerous tips online about cleaning white shoes and soles. We've rounded up the best ones for you. Note: Try at your own risk 😉

1 | brush of stains immediately

Do not wait for the stain to set deeper. Always have moist wipes such as make-up wipes at hand. These types of wipes work perfectly because they are not too wet but moist enough to clean things with. Rub it on the dirty spot and then dry it with a clean cloth.

2 | Prodent Smile for whiter shoes 

Apply some toothpaste with an old toothbrush and let it dry for a while. Then remove the toothpaste with a damp cloth and rub completely clean with a dry towel/cloth.

3 | a visit to the nail salon 

This sounds weird, right? But we read and tried it, and to our surprise, it actually works! If you have any small parts of damage to your white shoes, it is best to very carefully dot a little white nail polish on the damaged part. Let it dry for a while and no one will notice. Just as easy as it sounds!

4 | the cleaning cabinet

Looking for some extra tips? The internet has loads of articles and advice about cleaning your white kicks. Products such as vaseline, walnut, or olive oil also seem to help protect and clean white leather shoes. Vinegar or mild (baby) shampoo on a clean dry cloth also works wonders! The brand Cif or any other brand of abrasive also seems to work well. And for those who don't have all of these things at home, try nail polish remover, lemon juice, or baking soda. Note: Try at your own risk 🙂

Never put leather shoes in the washing machine! Canvas or mesh shoes are possible, but not recommended. The twisting and vibrating are not good for your shoes, we advise you to opt for a mixture of some soapy cold water.

Lastly, never put your shoes outside to dry in the sun, they can discolor! Have your shoes gotten wet on the inside? Just grab some kitchen paper or a newspaper, put this in your shoes and let it dry overnight. This works wonders! Our very last tip is to end a cleaning action by taking care of the shoes with a wax, cream or spray so that you can wear them again. All clean!
